BRAIDING COURSE DESCRIPTION
BRAIDING: SOC 39-5012.00, CIP 12.0407
The curriculum involves 50 hours to satisfy New Jersey state requirements. The course includes extensive instruction and practical experience in hair braiding, personal appearance and hygiene, sanitation, and state laws and regulations.
*Graduates are prepared to be an entry-level hair braider.
This course is taught in English.

BRAIDING COURSE OUTLINE AND OVERVIEW
Course Hours: 50 clock hours
The braiding course consists of 50 clock hours as prescribed by the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling. The educational objective of the braiding curriculum is to provide the student with training sufficient to pass the State Board exam; to become properly licensed, and perform all duties required under such license to secure employment at an entry level. Successful completion of the above qualifies you to apply for the New Jersey State Hair Braiding license.
Your time is spent in classroom work consisting of demonstrations and hands-on practice and evaluations.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.
BRAIDING PROGRAM TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURE
The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 50-hour course:
- Students must receive a grade of 80% or higher on each assigned theory exam.
- Students must receive a grade of 80% or higher on their final exam.
- Students must receive a grade of 80% or higher on all worksheets and assessments.
BRAIDING INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS
The 50-hour braiding program is provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation, and job entry-level skill. Clinic equipment, implements, and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative, and productive career-oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lectures, demonstration, distance education, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.
